Bollywood gets blogging

May 15, 2008 at 6:20 pm | In General | No Comments

The impact of the internet is so profound and enriching that people want to express themselves through the various ways. Bollywood stars are also not far behind ; the latest craze being Amitabh Bachchan’s blog. Besides the fact that I am a big fan of Mr Bachchan, I think, the blog idea is wonderful. Its a gateway to connect to your fans in a completely non intrusive way. Its way better than the chain mail fan club.
  I hear that there are many other stars going blog crazy. Will scour around the place to find more, especially the ones where the ladies write :-)

 Well this is where Amitabh blogs

Using XMLRPC interface to WordPress and Blogger

March 21, 2008 at 4:44 pm | In General | No Comments

Im testing the XML-RPC interface to blog sites in order to buld a plugin to post blogs really fast. If this post is published on the blog then , it means Im one step away from finishing my plugin. Yaay!!

If you have developed a web application and want users to post to their blogs using your application, this is the way to do it. Its really simple. Here’s the library I tried. Its really simple and works well for Blogger, but in WordPress, the title of the post doesn’t appear. For wordpress, you can use the MetaWeblogAPI for XML_RPC. Just download the XML-RPC implementation in php from here and follow the instructions in this article. That should just about do it , dont you think ?

Oh and this thing took me less than 20 minutes to do :-)

Found this great presentation, which is one of the winners of the best presentations in the world, conducted by Guy Kawasaki. Read this post here to view some of the best presentations as judged by Guy. My choice was definitely Pani Puri , its been my staple and my way of life. I cannot imagine a life without it and to think it had a deep spiritual meaning attached to it is completely rewarding experience. Truly 2.0 !!

Had a very refreshing vacation in India’s own Hawaii, aka Goa and am back after a good 5 day break. It was good staying away from technology for almost 6 days and it cetainly is a good feeling coming back to a full inbox and a fuller RSS reader. Wait for my post on my vacation in Goa - will write one soon, as for now back to tech-ing.

Making your first widget for Opera 9

April 23, 2007 at 10:46 pm | In General | No Comments

Barcamp Bangalore also had a session on widgets and their emergence
in the current internet scene. Opera is one of the pioneers in this
field with their support towards the current widget standards and also
its widget platform. What is a widget you ask?

A widget is a
small Web application, and making a widget is just like making a web
page, except it functions like an application and lives directly on
your desktop.

Step 1. Create a file named config.xml to give the widget a name and some dimensions.

<widget>
<widgetname> Hello World </widgetname>
<width>300</width>
<height>100</height>
</widget>

Step 2. create a file named index.html
<html>
<body><h1>Hello World </h1></body>
</html>

Step 3. create a zip file containing the newly
created config.xml and index.html at the root folder. You can open this
zip file inside Opera 9 to test your widget.

step 4. Upload your widget on widgets.opera.com and you are done!

Though this demo is stricly restricted to Opera, as the widget 1.0 standards is put into place, more browsers must be able to support this sort of a mechanism.
This is how your widget would look if styled properly. You can also visit http://my.opera.com/community/dev/widgets/ for more details

Post Number 200

March 1, 2007 at 9:26 pm | In General | 1 Comment

Hey all, this is my 200th post and I thought this would be a great opportunity to acknowledge all those people who made this possible.

For starters, I definitely would like to thank WordPress, my blogging framework, their wonderful software was what inspired me to write more. I just love wordpress and would recommend anyone who wishes to blog to come onto it and check it out.

Next in my list would be all those people who inspired me to write, I am not going to quote best selling authors here, but some of my motivators include Om Malik, Mike Arrington , Alex Russel and of course Ajaxian. These are some of the people I just cant live without.

I would also like to thank P, for dutifully reading my blogs and pointing out mistakes and drawbacks, she is someone whose expectations I can never live up to  :)   I would also like to thank my workmates Ash, Saha and Prabhat who have dutifully been listening to me Rant about things before I write about them.

Blogging to me started as a way of assimilating a repository of information that I kept learning over the net. More as a reference to things that I could look up when I needed to. Now its become a part of my existence, many know me through my blogs and I guess its just a part of my identity. Thanks for all the hits ;-) and keep reading .
