All that Jazz..
September 30, 2006 at 10:31 am | In Web 2.0 | No CommentsWith all this buzz going around about Web 2.0 and Ajax, i dug up some information that might be Web Trivia. Brenden Eich from Mozilla corporation is the person responsible for javascript, the language responsible for creating all the buzz . Read more about him here.
Also lets remember the neglected CSS. I have struggled a lot over CSS aesthetics and this guide gives a really good example of how CSS must be structured. A new effects library called bytefx was just released and its capabilities can be seen through this demo.
Other effects library includes script.aculo.us and ofcourse Mootools
Equally funny are these 12 rules for the people scared of CSS and standards. Published in ajaxian. Ribtickiling and inevitably true.
1. Everything you know is wrong… sort of
2. It’s not going to look exactly the same everywhere unless you’re willing to face some grief… and possibly not even then
3. You will be forced to choose between the ideal and the practicable
4. Perfection is not when there’s nothing to add, but when there’s nothing to take away
5. Some sites are steaming heaps of edge cases
6. Longer lead times are inevitable
7. Coherent and sensible source order is the best of Good Things
8. Descendant selectors are the beginning and end of genuinely powerful CSS rules
9. In the real world, stylesheet hacks will get your project across the finish line
10. Working around rendering bugs is like playing Whack-a-Mole
11. When you’re drowning in CSS layout problems, make sure of the width and height of the water, float without putting up a struggle, and get clear of the problems
12. Background images will make the difference between the plain and the tastefully embellished

Microsoft Wallop
September 30, 2006 at 9:50 am | In socionets | 1 CommentMicrosoft Research’s social network and photo sharing project Wallop spilt from MS and became an independant entity. Wallop is completely flash based and has a commendable interface. Wallop will go up against the likes of myspace and facebook and plans to make money not from advertising but from reselling user created content like music, videos, avtaars etc. If you are interested in creating these flash based goodies for other users and also make some dough in the process, check this out.

Check out Blogmusik
September 30, 2006 at 5:38 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsCheck out blogmusik.net with its cool virtual I-pod like interface and excellent streaming. Search for songs you want and play them. Registering has the adventage of saving favorites in a playlist. From what I read, its unlicensed music and will be taken down in some time . But until then enjoy great music.
BBauth by Yahoo
September 30, 2006 at 5:27 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsYahoo…..make your application use data from yahooo accounts of users. A new authentication mechanism by yahoo lets you retrieve yahoo data( i think its data like contacts, calendar, briefcase, photos) by redirecting users to their secure yahoo login page. Once in the page the user has to enter their credentials and allow for you ( 3rd party site) to access his/her data. You will have to register your site with yahoo however to be able to use this service and its BSD licensing(FREE). Pretty cool I must say.
Importance of Social Networks
September 30, 2006 at 5:17 am | In socionets | No CommentsAnd you thought you had heard it all. Myspace.com probably the biggest Social Network in the world has close to 100 Million users on it. 1 out of every 3 American is on Myspace. Sure does explain media baron Rupert Mudroch buying the site out for an outstanding amount.
Myspace gets more search hits than MSN search (courtesy: Techcrunch). Similar to Myspace in America, Cyworld has sucessfully networked almost a 3rd of the population in South Korea and are ambitiously entering the US Market. Same is the case with bebo in the UK and Orkut in Brazil.
Since its the era of buzzwords and standardizations, we have Peer 2.0 or People 2.0 to add to the already existing biggies like Web 2.0, business 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 . Peer 2.0 aims at standardizing the user experience and relationships among networked people in a Socionet. Its penultimate aim however is a heterogenous network where one person is connected to people from other networks with seamless functionality across networks. The only problem however is that most(if not all) Socionets earn their revenue from Ad based marketing and Peer 2.0 would mean they would have to bite into each others ad revenue. Wonder how it will turn out ?

Google Reader update !!
September 29, 2006 at 1:34 pm | In Web News | No CommentsAs a regular reader of the blogosphere, I do use Google Reader and they have recently released a reworked version of their site. Frankly, even the previous UI of the site was pretty awesome but ddnt allow for categorization and also many other features that have been provided with this release. There are many more readers like Newsgator, Feedreader etc the new Yahoo mail beta also provides a feedreader within the mailer app, so why google reader?
The reasons being
. my favorite Gmail like interface
. easy organising of feeds
. Really neat search for content even for non rss links.
. and the universal Google Id ofcourse

September 29, 2006 at 11:55 am | In General | No CommentsYippie,
I figured that since i read, explore and learn about hundred different things with regards to technology, i would create and share a repository of the same. I shall not only share my personal thoughts about latest trends and news related to technology but also quote from other popular blogs. People in the blogosphere tend to feed out of each others plates and I should do the same too. So watch this space…
